Overview

 

The Director of Construction has the overall delivery responsibility to the company for the quality, schedule, profitability and client satisfaction of assigned projects. The Director is primarily responsible for operational leadership, ensuring the performance of direct reports in daily operations, and effective planning, coordination and on time execution of work. The Director ensures all work is within budget and attains or exceeds project profit goals, while promoting and enhancing client relationships.

 

Ideal candidate will have Project Management experience involving multi-site rollouts within the retail/restaurant industries.

Responsibilities

  • Hire, coordinate and manage performance expectations of direct reports, contractors, subcontractors and suppliers (35%)
  • Establish and enforce project procurement strategy, including reviewing estimates, executing contracts and strategic purchases and supporting company alliance programs (20%)
  • Maintain and optimize financial success of project through consistent review of financial status, budgets and cost reports (20%)
  • Direct project meetings, such as kick off and customer status meetings and close outs (15%)
  • Develop strategic plans to pursue opportunities to improve customer satisfaction (10%)

 

Typical Challenges:

  • Communication:
    • Ensuring internal staff are communicating frequently and honestly, such as Superintendents communicating with Project Managers.
    • Ensuring internal staff are communicating to customers frequently and honestly, such as Project Managers reporting status and issues to customers.
  • Problem Solving:
    • Being a source of knowledge and guidance for Project Managers on job site questions/issues for commercial remodel and tenant improvement projects.
    • Organizing resources and crews for multiple, national projects simultaneously so that Project Managers have the right people in the right places to complete the projects.

 

Year 1 Goals:

  • Successfully operate as a profit center for the company by managing 3-5 Project Managers, multiple customers, and a $10M budget.
  • Build a reputation as a leader internally and to customers by consistently and accurately solving problems, answering questions, and organizing people and resources.
  • Execute projects on time and on budget.

Qualifications

  • 10 years of project management experience.
  • 3-5 years of project management experience involving multi-site rollouts within the retail and restaurant industries.
  • 2+ years of employee management required.
  • Willing to travel nationally (auto & flight) up to 25%
  • Must be in the office Mon-Fri between 8AM and 5PM, as well as answer calls or emails before and after typical work hours and on weeks (50+ hour weeks)
